Abstract

Indonesia is a country with high linguistic and cultural diversity, making Indonesia a complex multilingual society. One form of this diversity is seen in the use of Javanese, which has a system of language levels as part of social communication. The level of speech in Javanese is not only a means of conveying messages, but also reflects cultural values such as respect, social status, and the distance of relations between speakers. This study aims to describe the phenomenon of the use of Javanese language levels and understand the social meaning contained therein in the Indonesian multilingual society. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study method. Data were collected from various relevant literature sources, including books, journals, and scientific articles. The analysis technique used is content analysis to identify patterns of language use and the social function of each level of speech. The results of the study show that the use of Javanese language levels, namely the ngoko and krama varieties, still occurs contextually in the social interactions of Javanese society.
